Fabulous training in a safe homely environment. Very well researched and easy to manage techniques that work in a positive way with excellent results for our two reactive hounds. We can now walk safely without being scared that our dogs will do something silly.

Have done both puppy school and reliable recall training with my cocker spaniel and about to start the obedience course. Anniina is so knowledgeable and explains everything thoroughly so you understand the theory behind the training. The sessions are easy and fun, with immediate results. You leave feeling confident and equipped with the right way to continue the training for results. I've been pleasantly surprised at how quickly my dog's recall has improved with just subtle changes that I've made based on Anniina's training. Highly recommend Eazy Dog Training. Thank you Anniina!

We have done the Teenage dog class and loved Anniina’s demeanour so much we are going back for her obedience course. Anniina just has a way with dogs, and teaches in ways that are so easy to understand. She is professional and personable and you can tell she really loves (and is so good at) what she does. We will use Eazy dog training for all of our dog training needs!

We have learnt so much and made great progress, we were beginning to think it would never be possible. Most importantly we feel more confident and relaxed on walks. We will keep it up, thank you Anniina!

What Reactivity Training Is (and Isn’t)

When people talk about reactivity in dogs, they often witness barking, lunging, or growling at other dogs, people, or moving things. But at its core, reactivity is an emotional response. It’s not a dog being “naughty” or “defiant” – it’s a dog who is overwhelmed and doesn’t know how else to cope.

That’s why true reactivity training is not about shutting behaviours down. Using tools like prong collars, e-collars, or choke chains may suppress the behaviour in the moment, but they don’t change how the dog feels. The underlying fear, stress, arousal or frustration is still there. In fact, punishing reactions can actually make the feelings stronger and cause bigger explosions later on.

So, what is reactivity training?

Changing Feelings, Not Just Behaviours

Reactivity training focuses on addressing the root cause: your dog’s emotions. The goal isn’t to force them to stop reacting – it’s to help them feel differently about their triggers so they naturally respond in calmer ways.

Why This Matters

When your dog’s feelings change, their behaviour changes naturally. Instead of relying on force to control them, we build lasting confidence and trust. Reactivity training done this way leads to real progress – calmer walks, safer outings, and a stronger bond between you and your dog.

What Reactivity Training Isn’t About:

  • Reactivity training is not about play with other dogs.
Reactivity can not be fixed via play with other dogs – if only it was that easy!  Pushing reactive dogs into greetings or play often makes their stress and reactivity worse, not better. We need to build up calm, trust and confidence first before we can start to practise positive interactions. It all depends on the dog and the severity of their reactivity! We do get to this stage with a lot of our clients – but we work our way up to it!
  • It’s not about making your dog “love” other dogs or people.
Some dogs will never want canine best friends or enjoy being patted by strangers – and that’s okay. The goal isn’t to change who your dog is, but to help them feel safe and calm in the presence of their triggers.
  • “Can’t you just visit and fix it?” It’s not about instant fixes or quick obedience.
Reactivity training isn’t about snapping on a prong collar, using an e-collar (gives your dog an electric shock!), walking them on a choker, spraying their face or throwing a scary rattle device at them. Suppressing emotions with the fear of punishment doesn’t create lasting change – it just buries the problem! Believe me, I’m ashamed to admit I tried these with my first dog. And it didn’t work – my dog would still react without them!

Remember, your dog isn’t giving you a hard time – they’re having a hard time. With patience, positive training, and the right strategies, you can help them view the world in a different light. Because lasting change comes from changing emotions, not punishing expressions.

We Know the Training Works - Personally! Meet Elmer, My Reactive Dog!

When I say I know your pain, I mean it — not just as a dog trainer with 15 years of experience, but because I’ve been you. My first dog, Elmer, taught me the hard way… and yes, I honestly admit that I caused the chaos myself.

I was that idiot walking up to every dog on the street, yelling, “He’s friendly!” while my out-of-control dog barreled straight toward them. I thought dog parks were great for socialisation — I went daily. Elmer got attacked six times. No wonder he became fear-reactive, with a dash of over-arousal.

But I refused to give up. I read books, scoured the internet, and tried all the trial-and-error methods I could find. I even almost paid a local trainer a small fortune to “fix it” in one lesson. Thank goodness I didn’t — because if it were that easy, reactive dogs wouldn’t exist!

Fast forward a year, and Elmer’s severe reactivity was gone. He could walk past even his biggest triggers — including big black dogs — without losing it.

I might have made the mistakes, but I also figured it out. And if I could do it, you can too. Let me help you and your dog make walks and life together more manageable (and maybe even fun).

Commonly Asked Questions - Check These Before Booking with Us!

I can only do Sundays, can I book for 8 consecutive Sundays? Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee Sunday-only availability. With just one trainer on Sundays, the spots are limited. The good news is we offer plenty of weekday slots, including after hours. If your schedule is limited, let us know before booking – we’ve always been able to find a solution with our clients.

Can you do Saturdays? We need rest as well and do not work on Saturdays. We will provide you with a minimum of 5 days of availability each week.

Can I bring more than one dog with me? Unfortunately no. First, two dogs can not be trained at the same time: reactivity training requires individual training. Therefore, we need to be able to focus on the dog, and the dog can not have any other distractions, such as another family dog, around. Second, our pricing is for one dog only, more dogs mean more work!

Can I bring my partner or children with me? You can bring your partner or any other adult family members. However, children are not allowed to attend the lessons since reactivity is a serious behavioural issue in dogs, and children can not be involved in this type of training, nor is it safe for them to be present.

Can I share the lessons between my two dogs, who both need this training? No, the program can only be used for the same dog each week.

Do I have to participate in the lessons myself, or do I just drop off my dog? Yes — your participation is essential. We don’t offer a “drop-off and train” service, because lasting results come from you and your dog learning together. Our role is to guide and coach you through the training process, but it’s your practice and consistency at home that make the biggest difference. Think of it like a personal trainer: we can show you the techniques, but you need to be the one working with your dog day-to-day. This way, your dog learns to respond to you, not just the trainer.

What if I decide the training is not for me, can I get my money back? We do not provide refunds for change of mind or for pre-paid packages, consider and read through the details carefully before booking with us.

Do you guarantee results? At Eazy Dog Training, we don’t offer guarantees — and here’s why. Training isn’t something we can do to your dog; it’s a partnership between you, your dog, and us as trainers. Just like a personal trainer at the gym can’t guarantee you’ll hit your fitness goals unless you consistently follow the plan, we can’t control what happens outside of lessons.

What we can guarantee is:

  • A clear, structured training plan tailored to your dog

  • Proven, positive training methods

  • Full support and guidance to help you succeed

If the plan is followed and practised consistently, you will see results. The dogs and owners who put in the work always make progress. Training is about building habits, communication, and trust — and with consistency, the results come

Prefer to do the 8 weeks of training at your own home and neighbourhood instead?

We’ve got you covered! You can also book private training at your own home and area and we will travel to you!

For our private training pricing (other than the 8-week program), head here!

We also offer an 8-week private reactivity training package where we come to you for $1499.

This includes 8 x 45-minute training lessons at your own home and neighbourhood with real-life triggers.

However, this will be different to our popular 8-week training program where you travel to us since we will not have the benefit of using our own calm demo dogs since we can not bring them into environments, spaces and situations we aren’t familiar with, nor know to be suitable for training. We will be working with real-life triggers we see out and about – like you do every day on your walks! We can still do good quality training and will adjust everything to your situation and environment.
