What happens during a home dog training visit?
A home visit follows the same structure as any private lesson — we come to you and work through the issues you’re experiencing in your dog’s own environment.
We start by observing your dog and the behaviours as they naturally happen — though we don’t need to see everything to know how to help. From there, we educate you on what’s driving the behaviour, demonstrate the training techniques hands-on, and then practise together so you feel confident before we leave.
After the session, everything is written up into a tailored training plan so you have a clear guide to follow at home.
What service should I choose for my dog?
Choosing the Right Training for Your Dog
Puppies (up to 16 weeks):
Puppy school is highly recommended. Alternatively, private in-home puppy training is available for puppies up to 5 months old and is a great option if you need help with your puppy set-up and want fully tailored puppy training.
Teen & young adult dogs (16+ weeks – 2 years of age):
If your puppy is older or you want to address basic training or typical adolescent behaviours, our teen dog classes are a great group training option.
Basic obedience for all dogs (16 weeks+):
For basic obedience skills like sit, down, stay, come, leave it, heel, loose-leash walking, not jumping up and calm greetings with other dogs, our group obedience classes are a great option! Advanced obedience classes are suitable for dogs with good basic skills already.

When Is Private Training Needed?
Whenever you are looking for help with any home-based behaviours, behavioural issues or require tailored training instead of general obedience training.
In a nutshell, group training classes are for general obedience training and not tailored to your individual needs. Private home training covers more than just obedience training, including behavioural training for anxiety, fear, reactivity, arousal and aggression, and is fully tailored to your needs. It’s like the difference between a Zumba class and a lesson with a personal trainer!
Some dogs also struggle in group class settings around other dogs or people. Group classes are not suitable for reactive, highly anxious or aroused dogs who can’t cope in an indoor space with other dogs and people near. Private training provides controlled environments, individual support, and a step-by-step approach to build coping skills safely before attempting a group class.

My dog barks at other dogs or people, what service should I book?
Our 8-week reactivity training program is the best option for dogs dealing with reactivity issues. It is what we highly recommend for this. You can also book private reactivity training at your home and in your own neighbourhood.
What will private dog training address? Does it follow a training program?
Private training is 100% tailored to your dog, your lifestyle and your training needs and is done based on the assessment on the day. It can cover anything you need help with – it doesn’t come with a set-up training program!
How many private dog training lessons do I need?
It depends on the number of issues and the severity of the behaviours.
A 90-minute lesson is usually enough time to cover a few obedience issues or one bigger behavioural issue such as reactivity, aggression or separation anxiety. In general, reactivity, aggression and anxiety issues benefit from a training package, which allows us to work with you at your dog’s pace rather than try to rush everything into one session.
A training package gives us the time to introduce concepts gradually, build on each session, and adjust the plan as your dog progresses. It also means you have ongoing support between sessions, which makes a real difference with the more complex behaviours.
That said, if you just have a couple of specific things you’d like help with, a single 90-minute lesson is a great starting point and in most cases enough. Or you can book an initial 90-minute lesson and upgrade to a package on the day if you’d like.
What's the difference between the 90-minute lesson and a training package?
It’s really the time we have to help you.
A single 90-minute lesson gives us enough time to work through a few more simple issues and leave you with a clear plan to practise. A training package gives us multiple sessions to work through things properly — we can go at your dog’s pace, build on what you practised between sessions, and adjust the approach as things progress. For bigger behavioural issues, that ongoing support is what gets results.
Do you guarantee results?
We can’t guarantee results, and honestly, no ethical dog trainer can.
That’s because dog training isn’t something we do to your dog — it’s a skill that develops through consistent practice and management outside of our sessions together. What we can guarantee is that the training works, as long as our advice and guidance is followed. The results come from what happens between lessons, and we’ll be with you every step of the way to make sure you feel confident doing that.
Do I need to be present during the training?
Yes, we need the owner to be present for all training sessions. You’re a crucial part of the process — the goal is for you to understand the techniques and feel confident using them in everyday life with your dog.
The only exception is our Train & Transfer service, where we do the initial training work with your dog and then transfer those skills across to you.
Do you train the dog or me?
Both! We work with your dog to build the behaviours, and with you to make sure you understand how to maintain and build on them at home. Dog training is a team effort — the skills need to transfer to you so that the results stick long-term.
Can I pay on the day or do you have payment plans?
We require full payment at the time of booking to confirm your spot — we don’t take payment on the day.
The only exceptions are our 8-Week Reactivity Program and Train & Transfer, which have a payment plan available. For all other lessons and packages, full payment is required when you book.

We use a positive dog training method called ‘positive reinforcement’.
This means using rewards such as treats, cuddles, toys, attention, play and more to motivate dogs to learn — but positive doesn’t mean permissive. A well-trained dog isn’t one who only obeys when treats are present, and positive training done properly doesn’t create that.
Every reward is used strategically to reinforce correct behaviour and build a working mental state — where your dog is engaged, focused and working with you to earn the reward, not the other way around. That’s a very different thing from bribing.
