Great Puppy School – What Should It Include?

A great puppy school doesn’t only provide playtime with other puppies – all tho for most pet owners it is the most fun part of it. However, it is no where near the most important thing a puppy should learn in puppy classes, in fact the opposite is: calming down around other dogs and people. Puppy schools should teach basic obedience and general dog training skills to the owners, address common puppy issues such as toilet training, biting, chewing, independence training and so on, offer short and positive socialisation with other puppies and people and teach the importance of training life skills such as calming down around distractions. Especially life skills such as leaving things, calming down and ignoring distractions are skills most dog owners struggle with when their puppies get older so these crucial manners should be taught early on so that it’s easier when they do get older and more independent and interested in the environment around them. If a puppy school only focuses on the fun things it’s unfortunately very short sighted training.
