Your Dog Too Well Trained for Obedience Classes? Don’t Think So!

Every once in a while I get contacted by people who want to join an obedience class but fear their dog is too advanced for it. Well, I have trained dogs for 12 years and have not yet met a dog who was too well-trained for our obedience classes. Why? Because being well-behaved and obedient at home isn’t enough! This is the case with most dogs, they can focus and obey very well at home but not when out and about. Obedience classes are all about distraction training and proofing obedience commands in different environments and this is something that can be done to a very high level! Let me give you some examples! Can your dog:
  • Sit or lie down at a distance, not right in front of you?
  • Can your dog obey basic commands without a hand signal? Or a treat?
  • Can your dog sit or lie down right next to another dog without paying attention to the other dog?
  • Can your dog stay no matter what is happening around? Even when other dogs are near and moving? If a person is using a toy in front of them?
  • Can your dog come back to you even if there’s a food lure on their way? A toy? Another dog?
  • Can your dog leave food/toys/other dog/people when told to do so?
  • Can your dog greet a person calmly? How about another dog?
If you answered no to any of these questions our obedience classes will provide a nice challenge for you! All training is also always adjusted to everyone’s skill level so if your dog is better at something, no need to worry!
