What Can Your Dog Expect At Nosework Training?
In this canine sport, a dog to learns to find a hidden target odour and alert the handler to its exact location. Canine nosework training is just like professional detection training or tracking. Dogs can find objects, scents, people, other animals etc. When the dog is focused on searching, the mental and physical needs of the dog are met within a small amount of time and space which makes it a great mental exercise.
The canine nosework sport has competitions in which titles can be won. Competitions are run by Australian Canine Scent Work (ACSW). Even dogs with challenging behaviours such as reactivity or anxiety can enter the competitions because each dog is kept separate while waiting.
This is a sport that teaches us to trust our dogs, read changes of behaviour, understand body language, therefore making the dogs our teachers. This helps to create a strong bond between dog and human.
