8-12 Weeks Is the Most Important Socialisation Period
This is the time for any positive socialisation and new experiences because the puppy is most open to new things at the age of 8-12 weeks. If you want your dog to grow up to be a balanced and confident dog, this is the ideal time for puppy training and socialisation.

What is the age limit for puppies to join our puppy school in St Peters?
Your puppy must be under 16 weeks of age and have had at least the first vaccination.
Eazy Dog Training Puppy School in St Peters includes:
1st Class: Basic Obedience
The first class introduces the fundamentals of dog training and how to adapt those techniques for puppies. Your puppy will learn key commands such as sit, lie down, stay, come, and how to respond to a marker.
2nd Class: Socialisation
In the second class, we focus on understanding your puppy’s body language and socialization skills. By improving your ability to read your puppy’s signals, you can prevent future behaviour issues and help your puppy stay safe in new situations. Puppies will work on place training, sound desensitization, and positive handling techniques.
3rd Class: Polite Manners
This class teaches you how to set boundaries and encourage good manners. Learn how to walk your puppy calmly on a leash and introduce them to other people and dogs in a polite manner. Puppies will also practice calm waiting, greetings without jumping, and the “leave it” command. Additionally, we offer advice on common puppy challenges, including toilet training, chewing, puppy biting, and destructive behaviours.
4th Class: Mental Stimulation
In the final class, we’ll explore how to keep your puppy mentally engaged to prevent boredom, separation anxiety, and obsessive behaviours. Your puppy will learn basic nosework, fun tricks, and interactive games. We’ll also provide guidance on walking and independence training to further enhance your puppy’s development.
What Is Good Age for this St Peters Puppy Preschool?
As early as possible after the first vaccination has taken effect at 8 weeks of age!
This is something that confuses a lot of people: what is a good age for puppy school. 8 weeks old puppies seem so young and delicate, our natural instinct is to protect them. However, it’s crucial to get the socialisation done right and the earlier the better!
Many studies on canine behaviour have taught us that if a puppy isn’t socialised before 16 weeks of age they will struggle in new situations. This is a survival instinct inherited from wolves, anything puppies haven’t met or experienced in a positive way before 16 weeks of age becomes scary.
Create a Good Learning Foundation for your puppy
A puppy needs a good learning foundation to become a well-behaved adult. That’s why training a puppy is more than just teaching them to sit and give their paw. The most important aspect of raising a puppy is socialisation. And that doesn’t mean that you need to head to the dog park! It means introducing them to the environments and situations they are likely to experience later in life. Therefore, socialisation with different objects, people, dogs, other animals, surroundings, noises etc. is very important for the future of a puppy.
What you need to understand is that your puppy’s brain is like a sponge and every experience, good or bad, is stored away in their memory affecting their personality. That’s why it is the way they are raised and the experiences puppies have that will truly determine their personality as adults. A confident dog might end up timid due to the experiences they have early on in life. The more positive and enriching experiences, the more confident your dog will be as an adult!
What is puppy training?
Puppy training is the foundation of raising a confident, well-mannered dog. Starting early — ideally from 8 weeks of age — means your puppy learns good habits before unwanted ones take hold. Classes cover the basics (sit, stay, down, come, leash manners) alongside socialisation skills, impulse control and how to manage everyday challenges like biting, jumping and separation anxiety.
What age can my puppy join puppy classes?
From 8 weeks old, as soon as your puppy has had their first vaccination. We never run classes in public spaces — our St Peters venue is a private, clean indoor location. The earlier you start, the better: the key socialisation window opens from 8 weeks of age and closes around 16 weeks.
When is the best time to join puppy school?
As early as 8 weeks, right after their first vaccination. Puppies have a limited window — roughly 8 to 16 weeks — where new experiences shape who they become as adults. Starting at 8–12 weeks gives your pup the maximum benefit from puppy school. If your puppy is already older, our Teen Dog Classes pick up where puppy school leaves off.
My puppy hasn't been fully vaccinated yet, can I still join puppy school?
Absolutely — we only require that your puppy has had their first vaccination. The socialisation window peaks at 8–12 weeks, which is well before full vaccination. Our St Peters class runs in a private indoor venue cleaned with F10 (vet-grade disinfectant), and studies consistently show no increased health risk in well-run puppy schools. We’ve never had a health issue in our classes.
How many puppies are in each St Peters puppy class?
Our St Peters puppy classes run with a maximum of 8 puppies per class. This means every puppy and owner gets genuine individual attention throughout each session. It also keeps socialisation structured and calm — far better for learning than a large, overwhelming group.
My puppy is over 16 weeks — can they still attend puppy school?
Our St Peters puppy preschool is designed for puppies up to 16 weeks, within the critical socialisation window. If your pup is older, our Teen Dog Classes are the perfect fit — covering all the foundations and tackling common adolescent behaviours head-on.
What will my puppy learn in the St Peters puppy classes?
Our 4-week puppy class covers basic commands (sit, down, stay, come), socialisation, impulse control, leash manners and common issues like biting and jumping up. You’ll also learn how dogs think, so your training stays effective and consistent at home between classes.
Is the St Peters puppy preschool suitable for small breeds?
Absolutely! Our puppy classes welcome all breeds and sizes. Socialisation is always managed carefully so every puppy — from a tiny Chihuahua to a large Labrador — has a safe, positive experience. Small breeds especially benefit from structured early socialisation.
Is there still availability in the St Peters puppy school?
Check our live booking calendar above — if a St Peters puppy class is sold out it will show as unavailable. If it’s showing, it’s bookable! Classes fill up quickly so we recommend booking as soon as your puppy has had their first vaccination.
