Dog’s Basic Needs – What Does It Take to Care for a Dog? – Dog Trainer Opinion

Unfortunately a lot of the time people get animals for selfish reasons without giving much thought to what animals require to be happy and healthy. When considering getting a dog, the first thing to ask yourself should be ‘can I provide the dog what he needs on a daily basis?’. There are minimum requirements every single dog needs every single day such as walking, playing, mental stimulation and training for basic manners in our human society. Yet, I have been contacted by people telling me that they simply don’t have the time to train their new puppy. Have you considered all the above before bringing a dog home?

Dogs are a big commitment, just like children.

Sometimes people get upset when dogs and children are compared, however studies show that we develop the same emotional reaction towards our pets as we do towards our children. So we quite literally love them as much as our children and consider them family members. And if you ask me, dogs require the same amount of management and training as human children do when young, there’s no way around it. Puppies particularly take a lot of effort to be raised right but all dogs require our daily attention even when older.

Dogs aren’t for us to cuddle and watch TV with.

If you think a dog is happy spending 24h at home, getting cuddled and hanging out with you, unfortunately you are sadly mistaken. You see, dogs don’t know any better. If they did, I bet they would choose daily walks and adventures instead of staying at home all the time. Loving and caring for an animal means doing what’s best for them, considering both their physical and mental health, and not doing what our own emotional needs are telling us is the right thing to do. In the above picture you will find what should be provided for all dogs on a daily basis to help you meet your dog’s basic needs.
