Puppy School Alexandria – Eazy Dog Training Puppy School Sydney

Alexandria is a suburb that has changed a lot over the last decade — warehouses turned into apartments, young families moving in, dogs everywhere. If you’ve just brought home a new puppy in Alexandria or the surrounding area (Zetland, Waterloo, Erskineville, Newtown), you’re in good company.

You’re also at a critical point. The decisions you make in the next few weeks — about training, socialisation and exposure — will have a bigger impact on your dog’s temperament than almost anything you do later.

The Socialisation Window: What It Is and Why It Closes

Between 8 and 16 weeks of age, puppies are neurologically primed to accept new experiences. During this window, positive encounters with people, dogs, sounds, environments and handling form the foundation of a confident, well-adjusted adult dog.

After 16 weeks, this window closes. The brain shifts from “learning mode” to something more cautious — new experiences become things to evaluate rather than simply absorb. That doesn’t mean training stops being effective, but it does mean the results are different. We can improve behaviour after 16 weeks, but we can’t replicate what structured early socialisation achieves.

This is why puppy school — done well, in the right environment — is one of the most valuable investments a new dog owner can make.

What Our Alexandria Puppy School Includes

Eazy Dog Training runs a 4-week puppy class near Alexandria at a private indoor venue. Classes are small, structured and practical. Over four sessions, you’ll cover:

  • Foundation obedience — sit, down, stay, come, loose leash walking
  • Socialisation skills — calm greetings with dogs and people
  • Desensitisation to sounds, objects and handling
  • Impulse control exercises
  • Managing common puppy behaviours — biting, jumping, toilet training, chewing
  • Reading your puppy’s body language and stress signals

Every session is hands-on. The goal isn’t just teaching skills — it’s helping you understand how your puppy thinks, so training continues to work between classes and beyond.

A Note on Vaccination and Safety

You don’t need to wait for full vaccination. Your puppy’s first vaccine is sufficient to attend our classes. Our venue is a private, thoroughly cleaned indoor space — not a public park — and we use F10, the disinfectant standard in veterinary clinics.

The greater risk, according to current canine behaviour research, is not attending puppy school. Under-socialised puppies are significantly more likely to develop fear, reactivity and anxiety as adults.
